World Cup football in HD

News that caught my eye today was that the BBC is apparently trying to push high definition content through Freesat in time for the South African World Cup Finals in 2010.

Densely populated areas such as London can look forward to the visual treat. The BBC are asking whether or not it's possible to focus on bringing the crystal clear displays to Freeview 2 years sooner than originally planned. Ofcom, the regulators, have outlined a proposal to facilitate this idea and to bring Freeview HD to the capital. The BBC have identified the London area as a prime HD location, so instead of just getting HD content in time for the 2012 Olympic Games, we could now be watching the much improved England football team on their quest for World Cup glory. I like the idea. Having seen a game in high definition already, I would love to be able to watch more of the kind! And especially in the comfort of my own home on my own LCD TV - FOR FREE!!!

As they might say in South Africa, "Come on Bafana Bafana!!".
