Laskys Technology Blog – Centurions
This is quite a momentous occasion. Approximately 50 posts ago, I said that I'd stop counting, but it's not easy to forget, especially as we have a post counter on the site. In fact, it's particularly easy to keep count! This marks the blog's landmark 100th post, making us CENTURIONS!! If you're in any doubt as to what one of these looks like, please refer to the Roman soldier below (you can't miss him). So, what have we seen over the last 50 posts?
It seems like a lifetime ago, but I got back from a lovely holiday in Hong Kong where I was able to witness first hand how technology is used in comparison to the UK. We also tracked Virgin Media's activity regarding how it would deal with illegal file sharers as well as the launch of Panasonic's TVs with built in Freesat receivers. The iPhone also launched sometime during these past 50 posts and it was so demanding that O2's systems broke down.
I then reported on Apple's decision not to cut prices of downloads on iTunes, much to the dismay of many people in the office. An alternative appeared shortly afterwards, though, with Sky announcing that they were going to supply music on a subscription basis. I then went to the Farnborough Airshow, and got a bit of a sledging whilst showing off my photos, before discovering that the UK is full of Internet addicts.
We then saw fridges, washing machines and the like appearing side by side with our LCD TVs and laptops - Laskys had grown! After this, I found a few more bells and whistles on my PS3, just to impress all my friends. Word also got out about Apple's new launch, so we speculated a little bit on this too, receiving a comment about an electronic apron (I've no idea either). Sony released an electronic book around this time too, and we discussed what was responsible for killing off other pieces of kit.
The blog was then infiltrated by a few new names. Liz gave us a mammoth review of one of her many cameras, Neil kept a cheeky eye on the launch from Apple and Justin said hello in a foreign language. They may not have said anything for some time, but don't worry, they'll be back. Laskys also had a bit of a makeover and we also found out that the UK's somewhat behind in terms of Internet connectivity too.
More recently, I stumbled across something ‘better' than hi def, when I hadn't even properly come to terms with its beauty. Microsoft employed a comedian to star in their adverts with Bill Gates and I also completed another computer game. Next up, one of our web designers left to become a rock star and the lovely Catherine was announced as our auction winner, paying just 6p for her new TV.
It's been another productive 50 posts on the Laskys Technology Blog. I don't want to get you excited, but we will be celebrating our 1st birthday soon! You can look forward to a celebratory post for that landmark too, but for now, I leave you with a clip of a movie quiz to enjoy with your cup of tea.
