Blu-ray movie sales on the up
This Christmas proved to be a good one for next generation home entertainment. They actually grew 400% on the previous Christmas period. Around 1.5 million Blu-ray discs were sold in December as well.
This increase in sales of the new format has been helped along by the fact that more people own Blu-ray players, drives and PS3s capable of playing the next generation format. Unfortunately, there are still many people out there who are reluctant to switch their DVD collection for a new format that only seems to offer higher resolution.
On a personal level, I'm starting to invest more in Blu-ray. It was the same when DVD first came along, I was very scrooge like with my purchases, only looking for my favourites rather than splashing the cash everywhere. It's no different now, and I've started my collection with "The Dark Knight" and "The Departed", both of which I enjoyed on the big screen. I like the super quality viewing that you get with Blu-ray and although DVDs are going to be the staple diet of my home entertainment for a bit longer, I can see Blu-ray featuring more and more.
